Synopsis:

Fostering innovation is crucial for libraries to adapt to changing needs in an increasingly digital landscape. This talk emphasizes the significance of cultivating a culture of innovation within CUHK Libraries' digital initiatives. It explores key objectives of digital transformation, including efficiency improvement, enhanced user experiences, and enabling innovation. Strategies for attracting and retaining digital talent revolve around continuous learning, mentorship, and empowering staff and student ideas. Concrete examples highlight successful engagement initiatives and fruitful external partnerships. The speaker will share experiences in developing an innovative mindset through digital projects, focusing on collaborative spaces and interdisciplinary partnerships that align strategic goals with a flexible, team-oriented approach.

Speaker Bio:

Ryun LEE leads diverse digital preservation and data-driven scholarly initiatives as the Head of Digital Initiatives at The Chinese University of Hong Kong Libraries. Bringing extensive experience in cataloging and digital repository development, Ryun is passionate about leveraging emerging technologies to advance modern librarianship. He focuses on areas such as digitization, optical character recognition, data visualization, text and network analysis, geographic information systems, and developing digital scholarship ecosystems. Additionally, he advocates for knowledge graphs in Hong Kong studies and spearheads efforts to digitize resources related to Hong Kong and Southern China. Most recently, he has been exploring applications of artificial intelligence in digitization and entity extraction.
